What kind of planet is suitable for intelligent life?
If we would get a signal from other civilizations, would that thing unite our planet?
The right size, right distance, and yellow star don't mean that the lifeform would turn intelligent. There must be some reason, why the natural selection with some species would turn into favor the intelligence. And that means the situation on the planet must be such the large size or a large number of descendants would not be enough to guarantee the survivability of the species.
On Earth, that kind of situation was when meteor destroyed the entire population of the dinosaurs, and the successors of those great lizards must learn to find the food in the nuclear winter. So the advantage of the intelligence didn't start in monkeys, it started long before the first monkeys started to travel in Africa.
When we are thinking that the tectonic plates and volcanic actions would increase the advantage of intelligence, we must remember that Earth is quite a large planet. And every large rocky planet has got the tectonic plate construction. The thing why the tectonic plates might increase the need to improve the nervous system is that the species must predict volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. But the thing is that intelligence doesn't mean that the creatures would create spacecraft.
The thing that affects the improvement of culture and technology is the need to make machines. The need to create new technology is a very interesting point of view things when we are thinking about SETI-program.
Have you ever played the game "Civilization"?' What if we would see the things, what the certain technical or scientific advantage will give us? Or what if there is another habitable planet with another intelligent species?
There is a possibility to improve technology and there are descriptions, what each equipment requires, and where a certain road or series of advantages would take. What kind of technology we would have if we could predict the ability and equipment, what certain technology would give us? What if we have similar cards in the real world, like in that strategy game, and we could just see, where the certain road of technical advantage would take us.
And there is another thing, that will affect the technical advantage is that there could be two civilizations or intelligent species in the same solar system. What kind of species the human could be if there would be another intelligent species in the same solar system. Would we same way violent, what we are now? That is one of the most interesting questions because the outer enemy will unite the nations.
The thing that we don't know the existence of another civilization might save us from the interstellar conflicts. But the thing that the human race is at least officially got contact with other civilizations in the Universe gives humans to change to fight against each other. So if we would make contact or at least get signal from other civilizations, would that thing unite our species.
