More about strange medieval and early renaissance paintings

More about strange medieval and early renaissance paintings

Here I must say that there have been many paintings, what name has been '"Totentanz", and the thing is that "Mr. Death" was very often portrayed figure in the Medieval period.  But those paintings are not the only strange creatures, which are painted in that period.

On top of this text is the monster paintings or drawing what might be more interesting, what we can imagine. There might be the code or secret instructions, what the priests or anthropologists should look when they are examining the children. The "one-foot man" might be the instruction to look for the persons, who have another bigger foot than another.

That thing could be very good anatomic detail if that were meant used for the recognition of the certain inmate. The woman who has only one eye might mean that the person, who takes the details from the person, must notice if only another eye would be blind, or that person might have myopia only in another eye, what makes that inmate squint another eye.

The two head person might mean that person has Schizophrenia or that creature has two personalities. Those people are sometimes talking by themselves, and that might make them suitable for some interesting missions.  The people, who are talking alone are many times very creative, what might interesting inmates, who were looking for the architects and another kind of specialists.

A person who has eyes on the chest might mean a person who has extremely or extraordinary high forehead, which makes them extremely intelligent. The wolf or dog head person might mean the investigator, or the person, who has a double personality. In the daytime, that person could be a normal man or woman, and that means that the ordinary looking person might be even the serial killer. But the figure must be drawn because it remembers that the picture is drawn for the searchers or investigators, who should look for those anatomic abnormalities.

The Totentanz paintings (St. Mary's Church, Berlin late 15th century)

St. Mary's painting

From the Medieval time and Early Renaissance is left series of paintings, what are named as "Totentanz" or "The dance of the Death", and the thing in those paintings is remarkable that in those paintings people seem to dance folk dances with the skeleton, or some other strange creatures. The thing is that the persons seem not even know or notice that those creatures are somehow creepy when they are dancing with them.

The creatures that are dancing with the people, who seem to have a good position in society and good clothes have simple clothes, which would not cover even their strategic places. The thing might be made for the warning, that in every team can have a traitor in the line, but there are many more translations and readings about this kind of graphics. On top of the text is another very interesting version of this type of paintings.

That painting is located in the St. Mary's church in Berlin, and it is painted in the late 15th century.  In that painting is so-called humanoid looking creatures, and here I mean the creatures, what have a so-called soft silhouette. Their nose and faces are looking like very primitive, or they are not fully developed, and there are strange things in this painting. The thing is that those creatures, what are dancing with people seem to like more advanced than the skeletons, what have painted in the other this kind of paintings, where the creatures are only the skeletons.

Here I'm writing about humanoid-shaped creatures and I mean that there is something strange in those creatures. Their clothes are primitive and actually, they would not have more than canvas what to wear. And the thing that human creatures have good clothes is very interesting because the paintings what are painted for churches must follow the orders of the Catholic church and the Holy Bible. The creatures, what painter portrayed in those paintings should follow the letter of the Holy Bible precisely, and if that thing was broken the painter would burn in the pyre.

This was the rule in the world before the 30 Years' War. Even in the ordinary life, the painter should be careful, that the painting was not broke the rule of the church, because if that thing was noticed involving the blasphemy, would that cause the death penalty by the Inquisition.  And the thing that this kind of paintings would see in churches might be quite a radical thing in today. This makes them interesting. Why they are painted? And who ordered them?
