The missing part of dark matter in dark matter observations the dark matter itself.
We see only the small part of the universe. The image above this text is crystallizing the question of dark matter. What is below the sand? We see the sand, and we believe there is sand below the outer layer of the sandpile. But because we cannot see inside the sandpile, we cannot be sure that there is sand. So most of the sand in this form is below the surface, and that part is invisible to us, so we see the outer layer of the thing, what we believe is the sandpile, but not the nucleus of that formation.
The problem of research of dark matter is that we don't know what thing called dark matter is itself. Everything that we know is that over 80% of the universe is invisible for us, and that's it. So what could be the best example for describing the problem of the dark matter? We might think that there is a heap of something in the yard, but we don't know what that thing is. We can see that the heap is covered by using sand, but we don't know what is under the sand.
So there is a heap, but we don't know what is the thing, what forms the heap. And the missing thing in the dark matter research is that nobody knows what the darl matter is. We know that there is a giant mass of something, but we cannot know, what is the thing, what forms that mysterious mass. And that means the missing part is dark matter itself.
The thing is that we should call "dark matter" rather than the dark effect, and there could be a connection between dark matter and dark energy. Something that is the most dominant but unseen effect in the universe. The dark effects are the thing, that keeps the universe in the form, but then there is one thing, what makes dark effect very interesting, and that is that dark energy is ripping the universe in pieces.
