U-2 Dragon Lady
The U-2 recon plane flew under the artificial intelligence control for the first time
The USAF reports that the U-2 recon plane flew under the control of artificial intelligence. That means a new era for artificial intelligence. The problem is we don't know how far the research of artificial intelligence is in real life. Artificial intelligence can make many things like controlling the cruise missiles that can detect their target by using the image detection system. The thing that the cruise missile needs in the image of the target that the sensor can locate it.
The problem is that the U-2 recon plane must have the ability to detect also the targets, which are not stored in its database. During the tactical targeting missions recon aircraft compare the images of a target area with images stored in the database. Then the system tries to find the targets from images, and point them to fire control systems.
The problem is that the AI must detect the targets. Or the entire mission must look at from the screen., which makes the reaction of the precision guide ammunition slower. In the last case, the human operators are looking at the mission record and try to find structures, that might be hostile. The AI can detect armed personnel and silhouettes of the guns and missiles, and aim the ammunition at them.
The newest ammunition like Leonardo Strales can use both GPS and image detection for finding and destroying the targets. That means this type of ammunition can destroy targets from very far away. And also that same ammunition could use as the warheads of the rocket.
The new computer systems and cheaper electronics make it possible that even small-caliber ammunition might have an image detection system. The system is similar to the systems that are used in the mobile telephone image-based security systems. The fact is that the ammunition needs only the image of the target.
And then it can fly to it. The computer programs can upload to ammunition while loading, and then the ammunition is needed only the electronic hardware. The newest artificial intelligence-based ammunition has the GPS and image detection systems, which means they can fly over the hills, and then search the target by using the image detection sensor. The system needs only the image of the target, and then the location of it.
