The ion jet engine is one of the WARP-based systems for the futuristic spacecraft. The engine is the Scramjet or Ramjet which uses the ions that are pulled through it creating the thrust. So this type of engine is the next-generation solution for aviation. It can operate in and out of the atmosphere.

The ion-jet engine can make the real-life X-wing fighter possible. The idea of the WARP is simple. The airflow through the engine can make by using the magnets that are at the front of the engine channel. Then the air will ionize, and then the magnetic tracks will pull those particles through the channel. The electric arc can use to increase the pressure of the system, and that kind of thing can make the real-life X-wing fighter possible to make at least in some form.

The WARP- or electromagnetic jet-engine could have the ability to fly interplanetary missions and also operate in the atmosphere of other planets. The ion-ramjet doesn't need a propellant, and it can be connected with a nuclear engine. So that kind of system can use in the Russian new "Burevestnik" nuclear-powered missile. Or it can be a very useful engine solution for the new nuclear powered hypersonic shuttles, which can operate at the Earth orbiter or in the atmosphere.

The ion technology can make Ramjet and Scramjet engines operate at airfields.

Ramjets and Scramjets are the engines, which are making the hypersonic speed possible. But the problem with those engines is that they need very high speed to start. The Ramjet engine requires about Mach 1 and Scramjet requires about Mach 5-7 for starting the engine and that thing makes those engines a little bit complicated to use. Of course, the acceleration of the aircraft can make by using stages. The first stage is the regular jet engines, which are accelerating the plane to the speed of Mach 1, and then the ramjet engine will start.

The ramjet will accelerate the vehicle to speed what is the near speed of Mach 6 and then the Scramjet will start. The problem with this system is that it's somehow complicated. One answer is the turbo-ramjet, where the jet engine is inside the Ramjet engine, and when the system is accelerated to speed, what is high enough, that thing will give the aircraft extremely high speed.

The engine compressor must just equip with the iris, which closes the airflow. That denies the damages to the turbine what is causing by the centripetal forces.

The other thing is to put the flap at the front of the Scramjet or Ramjet engine which will allow using the same system as the rocket chamber and the engine, which uses the oxygen from the atmosphere for combustion. The system is an improved version of the flap engine, that is used in the German V-1 flying bomb system during WWII.
