Why tree makes a shadow?
In nature everything is selfish. Trees and other vegetables are not making vegetables for the gift. They are putting their seeds in those vegetables, and then the animals would spread those seeds in a larger area.
When vegetables are making seeds the animals are welcome to eat those vegetables. But in other times the animals would danger the existence of the tree. Of course, the tree could grow poisonous leaves and that would cause the death of the vegetarian animals, or they would move to another place.
And who would deliver seeds in that case? Of course, sooner or later the animals would learn that vegetable is poisonous, but then it must look for new seeders for it. The great idea would call some big beast for guarding itself. So the tree can make a shadow by using its leaves, and then the big cat would lay under that leaves, and guard the tree.
The idea of this kind of action is that the big cat would seem to be under the tree accidentally. If it attacks against a vegetarian animal, it would seem like a coincidence. The idea is that vegetarian animal cannot connect the tree to the death of the victims of the big cat.
But why trees are turning their boroughs in down during the dry season? Of course, people usually say, that when boroughs are downward water will flow better way to those parts of the tree. But another explanation would be that this reaction hides the big cat better way, and it would be more effective in it's hunting.
And if we are thinking very careful, every vitamin what is created in the cells of mammals are returning to nutrients for vegetables. So it's same for the vegetable if the nutrient would stay longer in the form of the animal, that biomaterial would return to the use of vegetables, anyway.
